Monica Haskell is running for Key West City Commission District 1. She holds a master’s degree in business management. Past service to the Keys includes chair and board positions on Key West Sustainability Advisory Board and Art in Public Places Board; Monroe County Planning Commission and Board of Adjustments; and Florida Keys Contractors Examining Board.
As executive director for the Florida Keys Council of the Arts and Key West Literary Seminar; and as a grant writer for College of the Florida Keys, Habitat for Humanity, Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden and others, she secured millions of dollars benefiting local education, the environment, affordable housing and the arts. She co-founded Key West Montessori Charter School, having written and negotiated the contract for the first charter school in Monroe County.
She teaches yoga, and together with her husband, architect Bill Rowan, boasts seven children and fourteen grandchildren between them.
