Representative Jim Mooney, a 5th generation Floridian born in Miami, has deep roots in the community. He graduated from the University of Miami in 1973 and began his career as a teacher and coach at Coral Shores High School. A small business owner and Realtor for Ocean Sotheby’s International Realty, Jim has served on various boards, including the Florida Keys Board of Realtors.
Elected to the Islamorada Village Council from 1998 to 2002 and again from 2014 to 2020, he served as Mayor during critical recovery efforts after Hurricane Irma. In 2020, Jim was elected to the Florida House of Representatives, where he has secured significant funding for local needs. He currently serves on several committees, including the Appropriations Committee as Republican Committee Whip, Vice Chair of the State Administration & Technology Appropriations Subcommittee, and as a member of the Infrastructure Strategies Committee and the Select Committee on Hurricane Resiliency & Recovery.
