Monroe County State Attorney, Dennis Ward, was born and raised in Miami. He is Vietnam Marine Veteran with over 48 years criminal justice experience. He began his career as a Police Officer in 1972, with the City of Miami Beach. While at MBPD, Dennis attended Barry University and St. Thomas University School of Law. After retiring from MBPD, he opened a Criminal and D.U.I. defense practice in Miami.
In 2002, Dennis accepted a job as an Assistant State Attorney in Monroe County. In 2005, he became an Assistant Public Defender.
Elected State Attorney in 2008 and again in 2016. He has assertively prosecuted:
- Ethics and Sunshine Law Violations
- Crimes against children
- Fishing and Construction Industry violations
- Stands up for women’s rights and Domestic survivors
- He is tough on crime and on those who threaten our economic welfare by illegally plundering our natural resources
